Title: Digital Safari Equipment
Post by: Darrill on July 20, 2007, 11:56:28 am
My thanks to Nathan Myhrvold for his interesting and informative piece on the equipment he takes on safari.

Though I might not take quite as much equipment as he does I still take a fair bit when I travel.

If bags must remain unlocked and with weight limits for both carry-on and checked baggage now being enforced by most airlines transporting photo gear is a challenge. One that I would think would lead to minimising the equipment taken and a willingness to access some risk and dispense with redundancy.

I would be interested in any comments from others on how they transport their gear but also on how they protect it from theft while travelling to and from Africa. In my experience theft is an endemic problem in African airports and the airlines seem very reluctant to tackle this issue.
