Title: where in India to get teleconverter?
Post by: santamonica811 on July 07, 2007, 01:14:14 pm
I am in Germany right now, and will be heading to India in a few months.  Anyone have experience with buying a Canon-brand 1.4 or 2.0x converter in Delhi?  Are the prices better than in the States? (I still have time to have one sent from the States if the price in India will be the same, or even higher.)

After India, I will then be in Bangkok and Singapore, so I could always wait till I get there (ignoring the downside of not having the teleconverter in India, of course).  I have found prices incredibly *high* in Singapore, but very reasonable in Bangkok.

Oh yeah, for something like this, I'd much prefer to get a used item, if that impacts on the advice you'd give.  :-)

thanks for your help,
josh

If you still have the time, get it from US.

You can get decent prices from JJ Mehta in Mumbai - www.jjmehta.com. No idea about delhi - i am sure there are camera shops in Delhi as well.

If you need to buy in Delhi then there is a Canon store on the outside ring of Connaught Place - it's the 'posh' shopping area near New Delhi train station. There are a few other camera stores around that area but they are more expensive - they appear to get their Canon kit from the Canon store and add a %.

You could always gamble with the slightly dodgy underground market stores in Palika Bazaar underneath Connaught Place - most of the camera shops are on a mezzanine level.

Surprised that Bangkok is cheaper than Singapore though.

&check out where you can claim sales tax back at the airport as this will save you $. This is definitely not possible in India though.
