Title: Help! How can I "save" the video clips?
Post by: samirkharusi on April 15, 2007, 10:56:14 am
OK, fellas. This may sound awfully ignorant but I am exasperated! I clicked on the both the HiRes and iPod samples, and they play fine (with the default Quicktime) on my PC but I simply cannot find the .mov. .m4v or whatever files anywhere on my hard disc! How can I find them so that I can burn them to a DVD or copy them onto a memory stick? Quicktime seems to hide them very well and insists that I purchase Quicktime Pro to "save" them. Is this really so?

I am trying to find a simple way of playing these files on my TV. Basically, put them on a memory stick and use a Sony Playstation 3 to view them on my TV. If it works, it should avoid having to burn them on a DVD.

Right-click on the download link, choose "save as", save to any location you want, copy from there.

If you don't want to re-download, they're saved in some cache directory deep in c:/document and settings.

Right click on precisely what? I am talking about the "Sample" Downloads. Right clicking on the link just saves the webpage that contains the video, with the video missing! After downloading the sample, and it plays fine, neither left nor right-clicking on it brings up any menu on the iPod sample. On the HiRes sample it says purchase Quicktime Pro to save! I searched my hard disc, including "hidden" files and can find no file that has been changed recently. Has anyone actually "saved" the Sample Videos without Quicktime Pro? I presume that the actual LLVJ videos may be save-able OK but I just wanted to see if I can play the videos  on my TV without having to burn a DVD. I may have to fork out $10 for LLVJ 16 and hours of downloading just to test this out    Still exasperated.

OK, let me commit to the $10. It's certainly not much to avoid more time wastage on this stuff.

You can always find embedded video urls if you view the web pages source code and do a search.

If FireFox is used, then getting Page Info > Media gives you a list of all the media included in the page. There's a button to save a selected media. Internet Explorer certainly offers a similar function.
