Title: Laptop briefcace with built-in hood?
Post by: scott_dobry on April 03, 2007, 10:13:00 am
Can anyone ID the laptop brieface with what appears to be a built-in hood from this screen capture?  Perhaps it's custom?
Thanks,
Scott

Not sure what that one is, but this is what you really want...

Sheldon,
That looks pretty cool and I've seen that Pelican Case.  There's no denying their quality.  I was hoping for something a bit more elegant for the hood system though.  Maybe I need to design my own with that case.
Best,
Scott

Was looking at ThinkTank's website today and they have a hood w/o the case here:
http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_PxlSunscreen.php (http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_PxlSunscreen.php)

If you're designing your own case this might be of benefit.

Mike.

Mark, this looks like this is the one. Nice detective work!

It apears to me like hood from the Seasport case married to the waterproof Pelican 1490 hard case would be the ultimate solution.

Good idea.  I'm just wondering if this thing will fit inside something like the Pelican 1490 when it's folded up.  Since it will accommodate something as big as the 17" Mac I betting it won't.

This is great -- pricey but great. http://www.lap-pod.com/ (http://www.lap-pod.com/)

Tom, I do really like the unique support system design for this but I'm really wanting something that acts as both protective case and hood all in one to keep things more compact and simple.

I think that I'm leaning toward the Pelican 1490 for it's protective qualities and the fact that you can stow extra batts and the power supply and even external HDs, and custom make my own collapsable hood.

Yes i have the 1490 but am saving my pennies to get this unit to supplement. What is great is that you can easily mount it on a tri-pod

This would compromise the waterproof quality of the 1490 (not to mention probably ruin the lifetime warranty) but one could screw a quick release plate to the bottom of the 1490 to make it tripod mountable.  Hang a sand bag from the center of the tripod and you are good to go....

I have the lap pod and really have been disappointed. I find that even with a 13" macbook shooting tethered with a firewire cable out the side to put considerable stress on the port. Also having the keyboard inside the unit means that making changes to images while the client looks on impossible. I've just got the 1490 and have made a plate that the case sits on that has a tripod quick release attached and nylon straps that look the case on securely with out any modification to the case.

Listed with B & H for $119.00   looks interesting.  I like the 1490 with the insert for portable usb harddrives.

Does this make sense when I purchased a 3.8 lb notebook to conserve weight???
The pelican itself weighs 9 lbs?????  oh well I love gadgets
