Does anyone have some suggestions about what is a good selection to offer, and/or what sells best?
Do people buy small prints or very large? Should you sell framed or unframed? Should you buy prints first or make them on request?
Or if someone could point me in the right direction to a primer I would be most appreciative.

Take a look at the tutorial sessions by Alain Briot on the main site for some insight into these questions. He also has a pretty decent book that covers how to approach this and what does & doesn't seem to work well - for him at least. Also, take a look at his Beaux Arts web site too.

It all depends on your venue. I sell prints through a couple of local gift shops; some are mounted & matted, some framed, some large panos mounted on boards, and some as greeting cards. My town is not at all art oriented, so I sell lots more $4 cards than I do $200 large framed prints or panos. The average size and price of sales is noticeably higher at art/craft shows, as you're selling to a different audience. There's no substitute for seeing what works by experience in your specific market.
Just from my experience, people are much more likely to buy a nice print they can examine than they are to order from a thumbnail in a catalogue. There are exceptions; I do have a handful of popular images I print to order after people ask for them.
