Disable auto fill flash reduction.

I have read several articles on the luminous-landscape website about fill-flash and the better beamer.  Most of these state that fill-flash compensation works best around -1 to -1.5 stops.

Is this in addition to the cameras auto fill-flash reduction or does the recommendation expect the user to first disable auto redux?

Thanks.
