Title: Preferred default values 4 developer mod ctrls?
Post by: wseltzer on March 09, 2007, 02:51:40 pm
What are people using for their default developer module controls?
Looks the default values that come with Lightroom have the
brightness control at ~ +50 and the contrast at ~ +33.

To have an RAW image come into the developer module and be displayed
with no changes then wouldn't I have to set all these controls including the
brightness and contrast to the value of zero?

Why does Adobe pick the defaults to be +50 and +33 for the brightness and contrast
respectively?

I am getting better results by adjusting the midtones of an image to the correct level by using
the exposure slider with the other sliders such as brightness and contrast set to zero and then
using the curves control to adjust the highlights and the shadows.
Is this the preferred way of RAW editing with the developer module?

On import you can choose "zero'd" as the develop settings, which sets all the sliders and tone curve to zero.

It works well to set exposure and blacks first, then move on to fill light, recovery, brightness, contrast and then the tone curve.
