Title: Lightroom Videos - Content
Post by: Alter Nereus on March 07, 2007, 03:19:05 am
Whilst the quality of the videos are superb and for the price represents good value for money I have to say in all honesty that I had expected more by the way of content detail. I have watched other videos regarding Lightroom delivered from another site and like for like these other videos contain more detail although the total duration is much shorter.
As an example (one from many) and something I would probably only have discovered for myself by accident, if at all, concerns Lightroom video No.3 - the Library Part 2. When multiple images have been selected and the white balance adjusted this applies to all images. However, not explained and a most important feature, is that when 'Auto Tone' is chosen each image is analysed and adjusted seperately. This can be checked later by viewing information in the right hand panel. As mentioned previously, this is a most important feature and I feel should most definitely have been mention in the video - if in fact known by the presenters.
I would beg to suggest that when the script is written for these videos that it is later checked very carefully before recording begins to ensure that content such as this is not overlooked.
Would I purchase these videos again? For the price yes but it has left me in doubt as to whether or not I would purchase other products.

From my limited experience with LR it appears to be a very in depth program that is quite fully featured - often there are multiple ways to accomplish the same thing  and many many things one can do in each individual module.

I think its a little unrealistic to expect a tutorial such as this [and I have it as a payed subsciber] to cover every element of the program -especially given there are still many episodes to come.

Dont expect the world... and dont be disappointed I guess. I expected what I got - an enjoyable tutorial that was informative with the odd annecdote :-)

What you are looking for is discussed in a upcoming segment. You may have valid critisisms, but please hold them until you have had a chance to review the entire 4.5 hours of content. I expect that most such concerns will be addressed.

OK Michael. I note your comment and if I have judged in haste then you can be sure that I will say so and apologise by further post.

What do you mean 'if', you have just been told that the subject will be covered in an upcoming section. There are 2 more sections alone on the Develop module.

Why don't you just admit that you made a silly mistake and spoke out of turn?

I have also bought the Tutorials and I think they are great. I have also watched other videos on other sites, but I would not judge one to be above the other, in fact I prefer the style of the Michael & Jeff show

I think that we are all entitled to an opinion, you, me and Michael. For information, and had you not only read my post, but understood it, you will have noticed that I was making reference to the Library module which is where Quick Develop lies. You are quite correct that there are yet 2 more parts of the Develop module to come - but my point was that the point I raised should have been made whilst presenting the Library section.
