i owned the lens....it is good....but no comparison to the schneider 40 3.5....sharpness, contrast, CA, flare (not to mention weight and size)....the schneider wins in all regards IMO....when i bought the zeiss i actually wanted the schneider but the dealer told me the zeiss was better....well, i bought the schneider 6 months later and sold the zeiss....
don't get me wrong, it is a capable lens, but with since there is the schneider option i would not go with the zeiss...

it's that obvious...?
that is some points.
Though 1000 $ less for the zeiss new.
but I can find the schneider used for the same price as the new zeiss.
thanks the usefull info.

the zeiss is usually 1000 cheaper used! so if you find it for the same price go for it...
i find the schneider lenses in general a lot better then really anything else....i am also generally not a big fan of zeiss lenses...i had the 40 (i think it is the same design?) for the hass V and i wasn't too excited about it either....the 38mm hass was so much better IMO.....
i now shoot mamiya and have the 35mm....it is a capable lens (i would compare it to the zeiss 40) but the schneider just has an extra ooomph in all aspects...hope that helps...

I also own the Hasselblad Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 4.0/40 CFE and I was not impressed. However, the Hasselblad Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 4.0/40 CFE IF has very high macro and micro contrast.
Does anyone ever compare the Zeiss 4.0/40 CFE IF versus the Schneider 3.5/40? or any other well known Schneider wide angle lens?
