Title: Lens Collar Question
Post by: arctictroy on February 03, 2007, 11:21:09 pm
I recently purchased a Canon 100-400mm IS and a 70-200mm 2.8 IS for my 30D with battery grip. I have a Giottos 8160 tripod with a 1001-652 ballhead/QR system. I'm not quite sure how to attach the collar to the head. The QR plate that comes with the Giottos 1001-652 is great to mount the 30D with my 16-35mm lens but it is not long enough or very stable for my larger lenses. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance!
Troy

If the QR plate that comes with the tripod isn't securely attaching your lenses, then you need to upgrade either the QR mechanism or your entire head to something beefier. I've been using the Bogen/Manfrotto hexagonal QR plates with my 1Ds and 70-200/2.8L IS and it is very stable. The other popular system is the Arca-Swiss.
