Title: Last night
Post by: MattBurt on May 05, 2023, 06:56:08 pm: There was a (mostly) full moon and a meteor shower peak (Eta Aquarids from Halley's Comet) last night. Normally a full bright moon wouldn't be compatible with seeing meteors but I read it could be a very active shower with meteors numerous and bright enough to overcome the moonlight.
Well, that didn't turn out to be the case. I don't think I saw or photographed a single meteor over several chilly hours of trying (and napping). The consolation is stacking all those night sky shots for the star trails.

Thanks! Yeah, it gets me out and can add to a known good scene.

Also, while I'm at it, I might pass through the Black canyon of Gunnison area for a couple of days in August: any nice hikes (read photogenic) that are less busy? Thanks

Thanks! 157 exposures in the second. I meant to get more but miscalculated my intervalometer settings. Oops!

As for the canyon, if you are going to the park the North Rim definitely has fewer visitors. Both sides have great views that are easily accessible and very hard hikes into the inner canyon. Outside the park there are a couple of hikes on the North side that are pretty cool. Curecanti Creek is popular with locals but doesn't get many tourists beyond the easy to access overlooks.
