Title: Photoshop toolbar issue
Post by: PeterAit on March 18, 2023, 10:48:24 am
When I right-click the rectangle tool, I am (according to the Help system) supposed to have 6 options: Rectangle, Ellipse, Triangle, Polygon, Line and Custom. All I see are Rectangle and Ellipse plus Single Row and SIngle Column. Version 24.1.1.

Bottom line is that I want to select a star-shaped area but cannot find the tool!

Thanks.

You are clicking on the Marquee rectangle tool (dotted outline), not the rectangle tool (solid outline)

The actual Rectangle Tool has all this on this end (type U key over and over moves to those options). Marquee Tool doesn't. Click the ... Buttons seen below and reset the toolbar (Edit Toolbar), see them now?

OK, gotcha. But the rectangle tool offers only rectangle, ellipse, and line.

Yes!

Sorry if I am being dense, but your screen shot shows 3 other tools!

There are two tool sets, one being selection/marking tools and the other being drawing tools.  The latter actually draws a vector image, Rectangle, Triangle, polygon etc.  With the former just selecting the area of interest and adjustments

Does the attachment help?

Check Edit->Toolbar and make sure the missing options were not moved to the "Extra Tools" section. If this is the case, you can customize or click on "Restore Defaults" to have all the tools in their original place.

The attached image shows the customize toolbar dialogue where the Polygon & Custom shape tools have been moved to the "Extra Tools". These won't show up in the rectangle tool but in the extra tools (the three dots option in the toolbar).
