Title: Compression cracks
Post by: MattBurt on December 27, 2022, 01:55:45 pm
The big ice slabs on Blue Mesa wind up pushing into each other and buckling creating some interesting shapes and effects.
I spent some time out on the ice last night looking for pieces that buckle up so they can catch some light. Beautiful evening and a good skate!

The second is my favourite.

Skating in this environment,... is tricky at best.

Glad you're safe.

Thanks! Yeah I need times like these to recharge.

Thank you! Skating somewhere like this would be very dangerous without proper safety precautions which I do take (wearing a PFD, carrying picks and a throw rope, dry clothes nearby).
We have a good group of skaters here who share lots of info and we have a supportive culture of safety and preparedness.
With some long track speed skates one can cover a lot of ground! I put in about 7.5 miles last night in about an hour including a lot of photo stops.

I like the play of the light against or on the ice surface… It's a beautiful set of image.

Thank you. I love that too and I was trying to showcase it.

Yes I bet! I'll get one at some point. My real estate clients want the shots.

Nice light, nice images. But where, or what, is Blue Mesa?

Thank you Eric!

Nice light, nice images. But where, or what, is Blue Mesa?

Thanks! It's the largest body of water in Colorado and close to my home.
