EDIT: 1. at a forum member's suggestion, I removed the background story from the opening post, and reposted it later in the thread 2. posting a b&w version that I now find more appropriate for the content

I'm with degrub. The guy on the outside makes the image. Who cares if it is street photography. The image makes the viewer think about what is going on.

Well, I certainly like it and I think it works quite well. While obviously I can't speak for Russ, I suspect he would agree that a good street photograph often captures an intriguing interaction between people, and that ideally it provokes viewers to conjure up the backstory for themselves. My only quibble with your post is that I wish you hadn't told us the actual backstory: ambiguity tends to enhance the response to an image like this one.

I suspect a street pic doesn't need a background story, but nevertheless, here it is.
I was sitting at the next table and watching this couple, mostly because I noticed she is constantly on her phone, texting, scrolling, etc. There was barely a word spoken. He would occasionally put his face into his palms, seemingly in exasperation. I wanted to capture that, but if I acted hurriedly, it would be obvious to him that I am taking pictures. I captured the moment after, with his gaze still betraying that exasperation. Modern times.
The bonus, unexpected and unplanned, is the guy on the street, also preoccupied with his phone.
My post-processing was meant to accentuate the coldness of the moment.

Not only is it street, it's damned good street. Like you, Slobodan, I prefer the B&W because a lot of the effect comes from the graphics. Bravo!
I'd love to see more actual street photography here, rather than pictures of streets.
