Title: Absolute junk filter
Post by: Rhossydd on July 03, 2022, 05:34:29 am
I've putting filters on lenses for over 50 years now. Most are fine, some are silky smooth (like Hoya & Tiffen) and some cheap ones have been a bit wonky and awkward.
I've never been overly precious about filters, a decent one to protect the lens, but effects and correction filters get so little use I'll put up with cheap ones. Even those cheapies have very, very rarely caused any noticeable image degradation or trouble with fitment.

I though a ND4 might be useful to have in reserve for a shoot in a couple of weeks, so went on Amazon for a standby cheapie. So I bought (and have immediately returned) a filter made by dHD. TOTAL JUNK, no obvious thread damage, but just won't fit at all.

Don't bother with this brand at all.

Cheap filters may degrade the image a lot i noticed  ( loss of contrast , more flare);    some UV filters make the color 200K warmer, etc..
There was a good test on lensrentals about the changing the spectrum with UV- filters...  I used cheap Tiffen in the past and they were the worst i have bought.

some UV filters make the color 200K warmer,
Irrelevant now if you're shooting raw.
