A Wireless remote is a vital part of my equipment and today i use the Hahnel Capture to do the job.
However this unit is not very reliable anymore so i think of buying a new one or something else.
Has anybody has experience with Nikon's own WR-R11a remote system?
it is potentially less obtrusive and more reliable... also it takes the energy from the camera ... so it is smaller
would like to hear about possible other candidates as well ...

Try some Pocket wizards - can be had used for $60 or so and will work with either camera.

i just bought this one and it made me happy...
SMDV RFN-4s Kit made in south Korea.
works just like the Nikon- ( receiver is small- attached directly to the 11pin port and gets power from the camera) and it is 1/3 of the nikon price- also it has a longer range

I use this one, too. I suspend the transmitter around my neck on a lanyard for easy accessibility.

Have a look at the Foolography Unleashed https://www.foolography.com/products/unleashed-18/
A great tiny device with a great range of features on the phone app.
Much more than a remote release.

Using your phone as a transmitter is too clumsy...and slow and big...
I already have a camranger and the hahnel Captur for the special things.

After working some year with the SMDV RFN-4s Kit i can NOT recommend it
It has a problem timing: you push and nothing happens or too late.
after one year one of the two i got already stopped working...
the hahnel captur is bigger but works flawlessly.
i am inclined to try the more expensive original nikon remote now...
it is a real pity Nikon did not put the receiver already inside the body of the z9/z8...
