Very strange question I know but am just wondering if there is a compact zoom that is less than 60mm in diameter? The only one I can think of is the Leica WATE (16-18-21). It can be manual focus or autofocus and any system down to M43.
Ideally in the range of 37-70mm but extra on either side would be great.
This for a custom DIY project and needs to be less than 60mm.
Thanks in advance! :)

does it need to be designed for a digital sensor or film ?
-
Can be either.. Will be used on a digital camera but I am sure a film era lens used via an adapter will do the trick..

The Leica-M 28 - 50mm fits the diameter requirement. It's probably still available on the used market. Frankly, I don't think it's up to the 16 - 21mm optical quality.

A quick look at m43 options lead to this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/808156-REG/Olympus_V314050SU000_M_Zuiko_Digital_ED_14_42.html

I could not find the Leica official info on it that included MTFs, so I posted the old one I had at https://www.paulroark.com/TriElmar-28-50.pdf .

Good One! Thanks! So the 28-50mm is like the wider version, in that it is essentially 3 primes in one? It does not cover the focal range in between?
Might still work but ideally I am looking for a traditional "zoom" lens. That range would work though..
Any others? :)

do you need "flat field" ?
What about achromat needs ?
is this for 3D objects or 2D ?

> So the 28-50mm is like the wider version, in that it is essentially 3 primes in one?
Yes.
> It does not cover the focal range in between?
Correct. The images taken when between the marked settings are soft. The name "Tri Elmar" is appropriate. It's not a zoom. I has 3 reasonably good settings: 28, 35, and 50. Frankly, I consider it a "35mm + and -". The 35mm is the best, the others convenient additional settings.
That said, I don't use the lens any more. The Leica apo 35 can do it all better.
