A serious man, undoubtedly!

Quite.  He was sitting on the veranda of the Palace of the Governors (https://www.nmhistorymuseum.org/about/campus/the-palace-of-the-governors.html) in the Santa Fe Plaza, where every day Native American vendors sell arts and crafts.*  This well-dressed dude did have some handicrafts spread out in front of him on a blanket, but during the time I was watching he demonstrated little interest in attracting buyers.  It occurred to me that he might be a security guard who was keeping a wary eye out for sticky-fingered tourists—hence the subject line of this post—but that could have been my overactive imagination.  Probably he was just bored.  A couple of other vendors I snapped that day were more animated:

*To qualify for a spot on the veranda, a vendor must be a member of a pueblo, Indian nation, or tribe located in New Mexico.

The two ladies are way nicer than him! I would visit them rather than go for the "serious" man. You might well be right about the undercover security guy. Who knows!
