Title: Any Opinions on Nikon's NX Studio?
Post by: aderickson on February 02, 2022, 09:54:35 pm
I'm an old Nikon Capture NX2  user. I switched to Lightroom 6 perpetual when it was discontinued but I still miss it.

Going forward I am trying Affinity Photo but it's currently not designed for initial import. I shoot mainly film and it's fine for that but I need something more for my digital but not really enough for a dedicated DAM app. So for a purely Nikon digital solution I'm thinking of Nikon's new NX Studio for import and raw processing and Affinity Photo for additional tweaks. My available filters include Nik Collection, NeatImage and Focus Magic.

I would be using this on a Windows 10 computer with 16G ram.

Anyone have any thoughts pro or con?

To drag up this old question ...

I've been comparing Capture One and DxO PhotoLab, and I thought just for fun I'll run the same images through Studio. Lo and behold, in my eyes the images are better in Studio - cleaner edges, nicer contrast. I've tried to keep the parameters as vanill as possible but that is my conclusion. Of course the Studio user interface is dire, but maybe it's worth persevering a bit to see if there is genuinely an advantage.

Your plan sounds good. Use Nikon's NX Studio for Nikon files; it's powerful. Affinity Photo is great for tweaks. Expect impressive results with this combo. Nik Collection, NeatImage & Focus Magic filters will enhance your workflow.
