Title: Cork trees - Setubal, Portugal
Post by: acorreia on January 05, 2007, 04:59:27 pm
These cork trees have been peeled in 2006.
This is the meaning of the number 6 on them.
Late afternoon.

I like the first one, although I wouldn't complain if you cloned out the '6'.  The rest seem more documentary to me than anything...

Mike.

I second Mike - I like the first one, it's the only one with very interesting light. I too would clone out the six, unless it's accompanied by the explanation, it doesn't add to the image, and could even detract by being to distracting to the other things that are going on in the image (light, composition, etc.).

The other images' light is too hard, making for an "afternoon snapshot in the park" feel. Try shooting these (if you can) at dawn or sunset and see what happens.

Thank you for the for your comments.
I do appreciate them.
I don't think to clone the number is a good idea because is part of the scenario and the story of the tree.
The number indicates when cork was removed...
I do agree also that these pictures are not among "my best pictures".
Sometimes I go and shoot without any real meaning...
I mean with intentionality. One has to shoot with intention. To know and think when shooting.
With commitment.
And here I must confess it was not one of those moments.
And that can be seen in the photos. I can see that. Not joy of course. It corresponds from a state of mind. Not a very good one, indeed

It was late in the evening. The sun sets at 17.45 h and it was some 15.25 h ...
Well, I know, a lauzy excuse ...

But to be excused  I post a nice post card

I also like the first one, but one of my primary reasons for liking it is the presence of the number six.

It adds mystery, and makes it different from a bazillion crooked-backlit-tree-in-woods-with-undergrowth images.

If the six is cloned out, the point is lost.

However, I'm not happy with the colour. Here are three different suggestions for handling that:

Your colors seem more dull, sad, gray but I like the versions.
Thank you for the trouble.
