Title: Lihhtroom Cropping Can i Keep aLarge Preview to Crop??
Post by: Michael West on January 03, 2022, 05:39:49 pm
The task  of making minute ACCURATE adjustments to my images  using a minute previsw of what my crop is doing is somewhat tedious.

Is there a method by which I can retain a normal "fill" size preveiw to crop ?

I've found no information on doing so anywhere on the internet.

What do you mean by "fill" size preveiw to crop ?
You can zoom in, as far as the product allows and use the Hand tool to move to a crop handle, then move it. Is that what you want?

anything cropped much smaller  than  shown in the screenshot below can be problematic when one cant see what in the crop in its entirey

By the fit size preveiw im referring to the fit preview size as defined by lightroom in the upper left hand corner in Develop mode

NAVIGATOR.. fit  FIll 1:1 2:1

OK, I think I understand what you want and I was thinking ACR where indeed, you can zoom as far as you wish while cropping, not Lightroom Classic. You want to zoom in to say 100% while cropping yes?
You can crop closely, the type R key to see the results without the crop tool in use, click R again and modify the crop but you can't do both at the same time. Doable in ACR.
Maybe consider writing a feature request on the Adobe forums.

You got it. I juts hate to have to oepm photoshop simply to make crops  especially since Im pushing the memory limits on my old imac with photoshop and a browser running concurrently

I may have to break down and hire somebody to throw more ram into this machine!

Thank you.

rather than start another thread...

do you have any idea how to erase part of a clone?  I can use a brush to erase portions of an Oval...but not so a clone   apparently

Rather than 'open in Photoshop', try cropping in ACR which again, will allow you to zoom and crop at the same time. Then you're still in a raw, parametric workflow, the crop will 'transfer' to Lightroom Classic just fine. I know, its a PITA, but until Adobe updates Lightroom Classic to mimic ACR, and a request on their site will help, that's the best you can do.
