Does anyone here owns both an epson and a canon pro printer ?

As I have problems getting the right deep blacks with my canon ip 4100. compared to my epson printers, i'd like to ask a quick test print on matte paper from someone who owns both brands of printers, like me.

On the Canon Printer, make sure you are using a Paper Type that represents the Black you want to be using (Matte Black, Photo Black)

Special 1-5 and Special 6-10 are known Matte and Photo settings (I forget which is which but their are 'known/True'.

My best 'matte' black ever was the Epson 9600 with the Matte Black Cart installed. It was 'really' a thing of beauty. Especially during a time where pretty much everyone knew you couldn't get a 'good black' on matte media. But the combination was quite impressive. It really wowed me.

Other will chime in with your comparison but still, you need to verify you 'are, in fact' using the type of black you 'think' you are.

I have an Epson 9800 and Canon Pro1000.

It's been a while since I printed Matte with the Epson because it dumps a huge amount of ink changing from PK to MK.

However, my matte print's "blacks" were slightly better with Canon than Epson. L* of 18 with Epson and 16 with Canon on Canson. So I've mostly been printing mattes with the Pro1000.

Good thing about matte is that the bronzing effect on glossy type media is not there on either printer.
