Title: Horse-Fly
Post by: Mark Nadler on November 29, 2021, 05:33:20 pm
I believe it is an image of a female horse-fly.  Females have mouthparts formed into a "stout stabbing organ with two pairs of sharp cutting blades."  For as common as horse-flies are supposed to be I can't recall ever seeing one.

Comments welcomed.

Impressive shot.

(But you can't prove it's identity through me.)

Big eyes or merely an exotic looking eye mask?
Well done.

Eric and Francois, thanks.

Maybe the thing I love best about photography is that it allows me to see things I would never see with just my eyes.  In this case, the horse fly's beautiful eyes.  My wife is a birder and I enjoy taking pictures of birds.  A great closeup image of a bird allows you to see things that you will never see with just your eyes even when enhanced with binoculars.
