Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum, and relatively new to photography. Below are some of my shots.
I'm using a Canon 400D with an 18-55 kit lens. I'm seriously considering upgrading to something else, but I'm still doing my research at this point.
Critique welcome.
Cheers,
AJ

This one was shot with a basic Huawei smartphone (which is long gone now).

Welcome to LuLa land, AJ!
I am particularly intrigued with your first shot. This is a difficult high dynamic range situation and would require some adjustment to avoid blowing the lights and stuffing the darks. I suppose if the blacks/shadows were opened up just a tad, I could live with the highlights if that was your intent.
You'll get some great feedback here. Also, check out the Critiques section.
As Eric states below, it is the most evocative. Good word.

Yes! Very nice.

Let me add my welcome, too.
This is a fine set, and I find the first one (even with the absence of detail) the most evocative.

+1
Especially because of the absence of detail.

Cheers for the feedback everyone.
Up until now I've been focusing on composition and light, but my technical camera knowledge absolutely sucks (I've been winging it in most instances), and I think it's held me back considerably.
Need to start studying the technical side of things.

Welcome. Indeed #1 stuck with me, and I like your interpretation of the tones. It would have been easy to open the shadows in the bottom, but to me that would destroy the ambiance of the photo.
-
Welcome, and I too like the first one.

Don't get too caught up in the technical side, or the aesthetic side might get pushed aside.
-
Welcome and thank you for this great set.
The first one is breathtaking, almost biblical.
-
I like the first and third.

First for me.
Very simple.
