Well that makes a change, naming a picture by a variety of things about it that it isn't. A bit like calling a modern digital camera mirrorless...

Very strange but I like the circular shape of the limpit vs the "much larger radius" stripes of the background.

Yes it is a limpit and I think the chunk of volcanic rock it was sat on, was recently covered in seaweed, but then a storm wave must have come in and ripped all the seaweed off the rock and left only the roots clinging to the rock, which had then dried out to become bleached white by the sun.

Thanks for pointing that out Eric and yes it is just something that my brain seems to do all on its own without me asking it to, because I can often go to a place to shoot a specific scene, but then after I have shot it and I'm wandering around aimlessly with my camera wondering what else I can shoot, I can sometimes start to see things that are obviously not there, but that my imagination thinks it can see - a bit like the old saying by by Minor White, who famously once said - "One should not only photograph things for what they are, but for what else they are.." Which has perhaps been the single most inspiring line of text I have ever read about photography and has stuck with me, from the very first time that I read it several decades ago and has been playing in a constant loop through my head ever since.

Yes, Dave. That quote from Minor is one I try to live by.

Another saying that Minor often quoted (I think from Edward Weston) was: "let the subject generate its own composition."
