Probably the most common of native North American sparrows, the chipping sparrow is often overlooked by those seeking glimpses of its splashier kindred. But in my opinion, when in their breeding colors, like this one in the coniferous Ochoco National Forest of central Oregon, they are nevertheless handsome enough for a closer look and a little more respect.
