Title: Apple 27 inch monitor
Post by: raymond bleesz on July 18, 2021, 08:28:33 am
My monitor, an Apple 27 inch, is on the "blink"---in essence, it does not fire up with my MBPro when it does--it goes dark. Various attempts at getting it up and running has not been the answer. The monitor does come on now and then but not on a regular basis--all attempts eventually make it go dark.

In talking to Apple support, I have a repair site in Denver lined up.

My question/s are:  1. has anyone experienced the above and what did you do?  2. Is it worth having the monitor serviced?  3. Would I just forget about it and purchase a new monitor?

thank you

Not sure what you mean by "goes dark". Does it ever stay "on" ?
Loosing sync on external screens through the TB ports seems to be a feature of the last few Mac OS / MB hardware generations.
Have you tried with a different computer, perhaps even different OS ?

How old is it ?

If the cost of repair exceeds 50% of replacement cost -> replace.
IF this is for a business, you should be able to depreciate ?

It is very possible that the problem is not the monitor but your computer, and more specifically, the connection port, or the cable. I have a 2014 15 inch Macbook pro and one of the Thunderbolt 2 ports stopped reliably working. It was still under warranty so Apple fixed it. Just the port couldn't be replaced, they had to replace the motherboard. Try another cable. Can you borrow another laptop from a friend and see if the problem goes away with a different computer?
