Title: The Perfect Travel Camera
Post by: Chris Kern on April 14, 2021, 10:21:29 am
Addicted to high-resolution cameras but tired of lugging around all that heavy gear and trying to find space for it in the airline overhead compartments?  The Hyatt Hotel chain can relieve you of your burden (https://www.theaureview.com/technology/fujifilm-park-hyatt-sydney/):

Luxury staycations are hot enough right now, but what if your five-star room came fully-equipped with one of the world’s highest performing large format digital cameras. We’re talking a 102 Megapixel beast worth almost $10,000, ready and willing to help you capture everything from those direct Sydney Opera House and harbour views, to strolls along the piers of nearby Walsh Bay.

I'm holding off myself until Apple decides to join the promotion by throwing in a Mac Pro and Epson a 24-inch photo printer.

That's.. sort of cool?  I guess?   The marketing guy in me says that this is a neat collab for Fujifilm, and I guess it's a good demographic for the GFX system, but I wonder if it's going to go off the rails when the customers don't turn out pro-quality work despite the awesome camera (and of course, then think the camera sucks).  I'd hate to be the guy trying to post-process a thousand amateur images of the Opera House into something that looks better that what they could get on their iphone.

😱😱😱

Why does it remind me of the bling attached to a mediocre Sony model and sold as a 10x more expensive Hasselblad?

They may rent more rooms if they included an escort.

This is a dumb idea. You go to a resort and are presented with a high-end, heavy camera, so instead of enjoying your stay you spend hours poring thru the manual and trying to figure it out and then you go home with some shitty but hi-res photos. As Archie Bunker used to say, whoop-de-do.

Amusing.
It used to be that clients would discreetly pocket ashtrays on departure, now it'll be the odd GFX system.
Ouch!

I was once in a hotel where all such things like ashtrays had an inscription at the bottom: “Stolen from the xyz hotel”  :D

About 50 years ago I was travelling alone on the Côte d'Azur and stopped for a swim at a small deserted bay along the coastal road. Another car arrived with three young Austrian men who turn out to be waiters from a cruise ship on their afternoon leave while the ship was docked in Monaco.  They didn't swim but unloaded on a picnic table a couple of heaped baskets with fresh bread, smoked meat and all kinds of cheese. Of course, also wine. When they saw me they invited me to join them and eat with them. Great food and jolly company. After an hour they got up to return to their ship and left me with all the remaining food and engraved silver cutlery. I still have it and use that dinner knife every day. Every so often when I get out the knife I remember them and wonder if they are still cruising.

The Clintons had to return the silverware they took when they left the White House.  But they weren't much into picnics anyway.

And another thread spoiled by Klein's obsession with politics.

Alan's obsession with the Clintons continues.

One interesting note is that up until now, Alan has been obsessed with the Clintons, and in particular Hillary, stealing the White House china. Today, he has shifted his focus to silverware. I don't know whether the Clintons stole both china and silverware, or Alan has forgotten what the Clintons stole. I can appreciate that details become lost in the mists of time. For example, Alan has forgotten what it was that Fauci did so long ago that caused him not to trust him now.

Speaking of the Clintons stealing stuff, it is a shame that, as noted in a recent thread, Reuters is going behind a paywall.

Don't for a moment think that Congress has abdicated its responsibility for weighing in on the issue of Presidential gifts. Here are 327 pages of their wit and wisdom on the subject.

I think a thornier issue than the perfect travel camera is the perfect travel lens.

Is that what we're calling "lies" these days?

Easy - good, fast (but not too fast) zoom.  Right now if I was hopping on a plane it would be a fuji XT3 or 4 and the 16-80
