Title: what's going on here ???
Post by: zobelaudio on March 18, 2021, 10:01:23 am
Hey,
I have just installed BigSur and updated PS and when I have PS open the screen flickers like every 3 secs with redrawing strips across the screen.
Have shut everything else down. PS has what it needs to work, enough comp power enough ram, enough of everything, I guess.
So what's happening here ?
Anybody else has that ?
Graphiccard fucked ?
Update crap ?

I have no clue...

cheers
Stephan

I would start from a - clean installed older than Big Sur-  system and then try again.
When you have a graphic card problem ( hardware) is very clear when it happens.. no question-
so it is software.

On windows, that would be time to update the video drivers.
Can you do that on Macs, or is  it controlled by the OS?

First, try disabling GPU in the preferences (Preformance tab). Any better?
If not, recalibrate and build a new ICC display profile, the old one might be corrupted.
If you are using software/hardware for this task, be sure the software is set to build a matrix not LUT profile, Version 2 not Version 4 profile.
If turning OFF GPU works, it's a GPU bug and you need to contact the manufacturer or find out if there's an updated driver for it.

There may be other settings you might try other than just off depending on the card.
There may be preferences for the CG somewhere to select type of profile being built.
Other things to try that can't hurt:
Empty the ACR cache.
Reset PS preferences.

You can choose an other screen profile in the system preferences- screen/color.
Just remember what profile you came from, to go back.

I have now deleted the former CG318 profiles and created a new one, apparently...
Just checked and the bug seems to be gone.
Will check again tomorrow, but thx so far,
you guys rock, as always
cheers

Such a nasty little problem that can keep you busy for so much time!

Yeah, especially with that as you would think, when the display calibrates itself, it builds a new profile...
But no. That's why it is so good to have people like Andrew here...
