This is admittedly a remedial question. Nevertheless, I want to avoid any error on my part since I am having some color management issues with prints I am sending to an online lab.
After I finish soft proofing an image in Lightroom Classic, should I uncheck the Soft Proofing checkbox before exporting the soft proofed image to the print lab? Or does it make any difference at all? (According to the lab, they say to uncheck soft proofing). Thank you for your guidance.

Soft proofing in Adobe Photoshop CC
In this 33 minute video, I'll cover soft proofing in Adobe Photoshop CC/Lightroom:
What is sof proofing.
Setting up a soft proof.
Saving soft proof presets.
What the simluate ink and paper check boxes do, why to use them.
Making output specific edits in layer sets.
Working with soft proofing in full screen mode.
The Out of Gamut Overlay and why to ignore it.

Thank you, Andrew. I will review the video this afternoon. Much appreciated!
Having reviewed the video, it essentially reinforced my basic knowledge of soft proofing. But, unless I overlooked something, I am still unsure if I should uncheck the Soft Proofing checkbox in Lightroom Classic prior to uploading the soft-proofed image to the printing lab. I would appreciate your opinion on this.
Thank you so much!

Hi,
I do my own printing, and don’t use a lab. But I don’t think checking and unchecking the soft poof check box in LrC does anything at all to the soft proofed file. It merely changes how the display presents the current state of the image file. (To represent, or not, approximately how it will appear “in print” with the printer/paper icc profile you’ve selected).
Typically, the soft proofed file (with the check box unchecked) will look different from the original, usually a little brighter and depending on contrast and color adjustments, it may seem “bolder” in some ways. This is very “paper/pinter” dependent. For some papers like the barytas and platines the differences will be subtle, with matte papers it will often be pretty dramatic.
Bottom line seems to me like the lab doesn’t understand what you’re asking. If you want to test this, have two small prints made, one with your file exported with the box checked, and a second without it being checked (and use a different file name on export so you’ll know which is which). Dollars to donuts they’ll be identical.

Rand: Thank you for your response. I concur with your reasoning. But being a novice at the color-management game, I prefer to check with those who have more experience.

You’re welcome. And, I should also give a tip of the cap to Andrew Rodney here as well. His brilliant video tutorials on these subjects have been invaluable in my education.

Indeed. I have his color management book my shelf.
