To Alan,
I think that Richard Bach observed and understood the absolute elegance of the seagull during its flight,before
to write his book.He also knew the New Testament well.
My answer could bother the defenders of the purity of the place because it has this picture attached.

I read it many years ago. The thing I remember about his point is that we're all in God's hands and should let go to reach the heights. That's what the seagull does when it's caught up in the natural updrafts. It lets go of control and allows natural forces to sweep it up, as reflected in your picture. As long as we hold onto our ego with fear, rather than trust in Him to care for us and guide our way, our efforts will be minimized and our chance for greatness lessened.
That's a good lesson to learn.

Yes, I agree. It took me a couple of seconds to understand the image. Initially, with the contrail and the reddish/orange areas, I thought it could have a been a volcano and some lava. Anyway, my imagination was running a bit too wild ;-)
