Title: Photoshop spot healing brush misbehaving with the most recent upgrade (22.1.1)
Post by: Eric Brody on January 12, 2021, 09:17:32 pm
If you've not yet upgraded Photoshop, you might want to hold off. I've long had a practice of doing upgrades on my MacBook Pro laptop before doing my iMac 2020 desktop, and it just paid off. I run Mojave on my laptop and Catalina on my iMac (which I have not upgraded). Version 21.1.1 seems to have damaged the spot healing brush. The symbol is different, and one cannot see the size of the brush. With all the rest of the tools, right clicking shows options for the tool. With 21.1.1, right clicking has no effect. I'd appreciate hearing from others who have done the upgrade. If you have, does the spot healing brush work properly? Am I a series of one or is this a general problem. Thanks to any who respond.
Eric

I have installed the new version 22.1.1 that just came out a few days ago on two windows 10 computers and it works fine. The spot healing brush works properly. Just in case, have you checked that caps lock is not activated? Otherwise I would try reinstalling the software

Thanks Frank. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop 22.1.1, uninstalled and reinstalled Creative Cloud, shut down and rebooted my laptop (Mojave) and the issue remains. The caps lock key is off.

In 22.1.1, when I click on the spot healing brush tool, what shows is an icon that looks like a bandaid (?), three small bars and an small arrowhead. There's no way to see the size of the tool.

When I reinstalled 22.1.0 it's back to normal so there must be something with the upgrade???

Have no Mac users updated to 22.1.1? Over 60 folks have looked at my post with only Frank's reply.

Thanks again,

Eric

Check "Edit -> Preferences -> Cursors -> Painting Cursors" and make sure the "Normal brush tip" is selected. The cursor you describe is the one that appears when selecting "Standard"

Finally sorted it. I had somehow chosen a different workspace which somehow messed up the tool. Don't really fully understand it but when I got it to work properly on my laptop, I went ahead and updated on my desktop and voila, all was well. Thanks to all who read this post and thought about it.

It also won’t work properly at certain zoom levels Adobe should fix this in an update as it’s messed up now for sure. I use that tool for six hours a day so I know when it’s messed up, workaround is to restart PS and say a short prayer.

Sorry__off topic, but has to do with the healing tool on PS. Today I had a 14"x19" print order scanned from a 120 size negative made in 1938. I use a Nikon medium format Film Scanner, at highest resolution. It of course scans small dust spots (I use a glass carrier). It also is such high res, it scans grain, visible in big prints. When I use the healing tool to fix the dust spots, some of the larger ones when filled in DO NOT show the grain, which is not authentic looking. Is there any way to fix this so the healing tool looks at surrounding image (including the film grain)?
Again, appologize for the off topic.

Try using the clone stamp. Low feather.
