I’ll be taking some personal time off this week for family reasons, so PhotoshopNews will have only spotty coverage. However, you -WILL- want to tune into PhotoshopNews this coming Friday, December 15th-I can say no more…
So something is probably happening.

Confirmed! Although it's only a beta and a BIG download.
From the Photoshop News site:

Does Bridge remain the same and what does ACR look like?

this is the press release http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/...6Photoshop.html (http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/200612/121406Photoshop.html)
you can download it Friday morning from http://labs.adobe.com/ (http://labs.adobe.com/) and register it with your current CS2's serial number.
-
Does anyone know if a valid PS CS2 Win serial number will make it possible to download/install/use the beta on an intel Mac?

Bernard

Watch some free CS3 training videos from NAPP here (http://www.photoshopuser.com/cs3/index.html).

What I want to know is if CS3 is going to take advantage of 64-bit processing. But on top of that, I hope it doesn't have a limit on how much RAM it can access. I desperately need more than 2GB of RAM. Does anybody have any insight into this?

Someone told me max 8GB per application on Mac OSX10.4, but I have not checked that figure.

I'm basically a PC guy, so my plan would be to use Windows Vista. With the new OS, the different 64-bit versions break down as follows for how much RAM they can utilize:
Home Version - 8GB
Premium - 16GB
Business - 128+GB
Enterprise - 128+GB
Ultimate - 128+GB
So...let's have it all. I'd roll with the Business Version and put a boatload of RAM in it.
Either that, or maybe have Photoshop work in a fashion where you do your editorial on a low-res version and then let it render in the background. I'm working with really large files(sometimes over 2GB), and it's painfully slow. I recently worked on an image that took me almost 30 minutes to save. It's killing me!!!

That's the total RAM for the OS, but isn't there a limitation for the amount of mem usable by each application?

Exactly. That's why I want/need Photoshop to be able to access more RAM. Up to this point, there's been two bottlenecks...the OS and Photoshop. With the new OS, that bottleneck will be aleviated, so Photoshop needs to follow suit or change it's architecture. So far, I haven't been able to locate any information as to what the specs are for CS3.

Sure, but I meant that there was possible a generic limitation to the amount of ram that can be allocated to a process in Vista. Or is there not?

Bernard

I'm not sure. That may be another question for the experts.

It is still at 3072MB, at least for Mac. I had hoped for more. Maybe in the final release.
Apart from anything else it is certainly much faster to load.
CS2 = 16 seconds
CS3 = 2 seconds
On a G5 Quad running 10.4.8

I'm not sure I like the sound of CS3 in this article - Basic and Advanced version. Sounds like Adobe is starting exploit its position in the market to extort as much money as possible. If basic stays the same price, what are they going to make people charge for advanced?
-
Well, I proposed the question to John Nack over at his blog regarding 64bit and RAM. Here is his response:
"Nothing has changed in this department. --J."
This is most unfortunate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
