Title: 3800 and canvas pano
Post by: prezden on December 14, 2006, 02:38:30 am
Has anyone tried printing 17x37" canvas sheets with  the 3800. Was there any problems with the canvas feeding through the printer?

Wow! I'm sad to see no one has tried to print the canves
If someone does  make some 37" canvas prints in the next little while would they kindly print a short report on how well the printer handles the media.
Thanks

I haven't made any big prints with canvas yet, but have put some cut down A4 sized sheets through to generate a custom profile.
I'm using DaVinchi Matte canvas and it seemed to work very well(Using the Watercolour paper-Radiant white option, with a paper thickness of 5 and a wide platen gap). Although it took a couple of attempts to get it to feed properly from the rear manual feed slot, the printer saying the paper was skewed, but that may be just poor technique on my part.
Once the printer had 'grabbed' the canvas there were no further problems.

I'm hoping to make some proper prints in the next few days and will report back.

Hi All
I first posted this questio back in Dec. but didn't get any response. Thought I would try it again. I'm ready to buy the 3800 if I knew it could handle the 17x37 canvas.
Thanks!

The longest canvas I've printed on the 3800 is 12 x 36. I use premier art's canvas for epson. They don't have a procedure on their website for the 3800 so I followed the instructions for the 4800 (same ink set). I used a paper type and profile of ultrasmooth fine art paper. This paper type will set the platen width to wide and the paper thickness to 5. It will also use the matte black ink. I used to print this canvas on the 2200 with the photo black and had reservations about the matte black ink but the output of the 3800 was better than the 2200. Very pleased with the results.
Feed the canvas from the rear slot. Cut the edge straight and keep a slight pressure with  both hands until it feeds. You can also turn off the paper check from the printer menu if you have problems feeding but make sure to turn it back on when done.

Cut the edge straight[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=94628\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

a beginner's question. how do you cut the edge of a 17" sheet of paper straight? scissors wouldn't do the job obviously. metal ruler and nice sharp cutter? but it would still need to be exactly 90°...

Gregory
