Title: Smazy Summer in the foothills of the Sierra
Post by: langier on September 16, 2020, 09:29:06 pm
After weeks of smoggy muck, the last few days the visibility has gone down to perhaps 1.5 km, not quite a mile. It's a soupy-like atmosphere, golden, unlike the blue of fog, much like a 1970s dystopian cinematic vision of the world to come in the year 2000...Yet, I still shoot anyway. This afternoon, the winds came from San Francisco and a little bit a blue and perhaps the visibility has gone up to 7-8 km, about 5 miles.

Here's a few from within 2 km of my home taken during walks to keep my sanity and drives just to seek some sanity:

But hidden in plain sight though out it all, the gloom of fires crisping northern California, the lowly & showy tarweed, causing for me Madia Madness. These flowers, the common media, aka Madia elegant. bloom in the spring but is always its best in late summer where the yellow flowers. Usually, they start in late August, but this year's crop started in late July, perhaps portending an early winter, a La Niña on its way. Most of the madia nearby, are more than a single, bright yellow, with their ray flowers showing deep, dark red coloration at their stems, thus adding a little contrast to these showy, yellow flowers.

They are but miniature and quite fragrant cousins of sunflowers and a late gift of nature as the seasons change to fall, then to winter.

Thanks all!

In these times, no matter one's persuasion, it's important to the sanity of all to find beauty within the chaos and turmoil and essential share it in the hopes to bring some calm to fellow travelers in the storm.
