Title: New Cambo Actar 19 is Announced
Post by: Steve Hendrix on September 15, 2020, 12:39:16 pm
Cambo has announced a new addition to their Actar lineup, the Actar 19. In this case, they're proudly revealing the origin of the lens, which is the Nikkor 19 TS Lens, a well known and well regarded lens. They have been able to produce an Actar mount that allows manual aperture control for this lens. This lens can now be a real consideration for someone using any Cambo Actus View Camera. It comes with included board and an aperture control mechanism for complete manual aperture control. Yes, it is a pricey mounting of an already pricey lens ... but may be worth it for some.

Actar 19 ... which is the Nikkor 19 TS ... [on an] Actar mount that allows manual aperture control for this lens.

Neat & clever idea.

As large format type/style lenses are slowly disappearing, I assume, we will see more of such adaptions in the future.

the problem is finding a wide angle with enough movement left. I own the PC-Nikkor 19mm f/4 and this would be a nice sharp lens for the XL or Actus. The Actar 24mm was a bit of disappointment image quality wise.

This is the best T/S lens on the market, smart move!

I can imagine it will do well on the GFX 100MP.  Indeed a smart move, for now or ever,  there is nothing like it.

It does, but you can also you use a direct adapter in this case.

Cheers,

Is there a direct adapter for Fuji GFX that will control the aperture of the PC19?

I would love to use mine on the Fuji.

Thanks

Yes, the Steelsring adaptor gives you control of aperture.

Yes, the steelsring allows aperture control.
But the opening of the adapter is quite narrow (look at the product photos, you will see). I checked this with a friend who has the steelsring. There is vignetting from the adapter even with just a few mm of shift. If you can live with the restrictions of fixed aperture - a dumb adapter with a wider opening is a better option in my opinion.

I use the PC-E 19 on the GFX 100 with a combination of:
1. a very thin and precise Novoflex Nikon to Canon adapter and
2. the HCam Dual Rotation Shifter.
Aperture is preset to f13 in my case. Focus peaking can be used to check focus across the field but I usually work without focus peaking - and never missed focus yet.

The Cambo solution looks great too, but I am not a fan of this setup. So I am very happy with my solution which gives me best possible ultrawide quality for architecture. The image quality of the PC-E 19 is indeed great and much better than the TS-E 17mm.

Agreed, i would not shift the lens because degradation kicks in immediately !
