Title: Lightroom color management is broken
Post by: gjbloch on July 26, 2020, 03:27:43 pm
Somehow the color management on my iMac Pro is broken - only when I print from lightroom classic.
If I print from another iMac Pro/Lightroom classic (my wife's) or from Qimage on my machine all is good.
Lightroom Classic is latest version from creative cloud. iMacs are running Catalina.
The image has a lot of reds and dark blues and comes out orange/brown and almost black instead of blues.
Paper is Legacy Baryta and I'm using the profile off the Epson site

Any ideas what is causing this
Any ideas on how to fix it
How does one do a clean install of lightroom classic if its from creative cloud without having to sit on the phone with Adobe.

thanks
Gerald

I think someone else had a very similar issue not to long ago. Search the threads here.

I did a search but did not find anything related.

What I have tried so far:

Re download and install the profiles
Re-install LrC but kept the profiles so maybe that is the next setp
Replaced the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder with the one from my wife's machine that works perfectly

None of these actions have solved the problem.

What are all the touch-points in a Lightroom /photoshop/Mac environment for colour management. Is it all in the ColorSync/Profiles folder or are there others?
Has anyone else used Qimage One and understands how its color management differs from Lightroom's? In this difference lies the answer I suspect.

if i recall correctly ( and i may be wrong) , the OP in the thread i was remembering ended up with a clean install of the OS and that fixed the issue.

NEVER install a print driver, certainly for Epson using an Apple update. Wrong driver.
Then there's the sometimes necessary Epson Enema routine for Mac:
   1.   Delete all instances of Epson printers from System Preferences>Print & Fax.

   2.   Then go to /Library/Printers and toss the whole Epson folder.

   3.   Toss LFP Remote Panel (IF you are using this utility for your printer).

   4.   Then reinstall drivers from Epson and never Apple.

When you go back to Print & Fax to add the printer, on 10.X I had to wait almost a minute before the IP version of the printer showed up, whereas the Bonjour one shows up right away. Then add the IP instance of the printer. This is for printers on a network.
Then re-install LFP Remote Panel if you use it with this printer.

NOTE: IF you have more than one Epson printer, you need to install the driver in the order of their release! Older then newer or you run into issues (eg, install 4800 before you’d install 3880).

Epson is a well-respected brand, but it seems stupid to have to go through this process, even occasionally. Do Canon and HP cause similar problems?

It's kind of stupid that Apple (and hence some users) allow Apple to update the drivers installed from and by Epson with an auto update process.
Canon and HP are utterly bug free  ;D
