Hi,
Would someone please explain to me the differences between Broncolor trigger systems?
I see RFS ( Infrared?) RFS 2, RFS 2.1, RFS2.2
What is compatible with what and what receivers are fitted to wha pack?
I currently have a Pulso A4 pack, a Mobil A2R and a Mobil A2L. Probably looking to get a Grafit.
I have read the manuals and they don't help me much unfortunately.

RFS is all radio controlled. The IR transmitter is IRX for example. An IR receiver is built into the grafit pack. If it is a radio controlled unit it will most probably be RFS. If it is the "plus" version it will have no RFS as the plus interface uses the same internal interface. Plus was a hardwired remote control. RFS can be retrofitted with original parts from broncolor, if my mind serves me well there might also be an option for RFS 2. Please note there are different RFS frequencies at least for the US and EU, not sure about your place. RFS 2 uses a higher operating frequency and is faster regarding transmitting the snyc signal. With the RFS2.2 system you can take advantage of the HS technology built into some newer units like Move or Siros or just trigger any RFS 2 receiver. RFS2.2 transmitter is quite bulky and I prefer the older ones. RFS battery seem to last forever while I had to replace RFS 2 batteries regularly. HTH.

Useful information as always.
So would an RFS 2.1 or 2.2 trigger fire an RFS pack?
I take it that my A2L Mobil pack will be RFS which is not fast enough for leaf shutter cameras anyway.
I will probably just stick with the Elinchrom Skyport Universal receivers as in Speed mode they will handle leaf shutters up to almost 1/2000S.

The mobil packs were the last straw of my decades long broncolor ownership....checked out flashpoint/Godoy and never turned back...
The new 1200 packs are awesome, excellent color consistency and short flash duration....no they cant compete with Grafit but they are battery powered, portable and obviously a lot cheaper....i have no problem syncing 1/2000 with X1D...
I also did not like it when broncolor started selling rebadged Godox transmitters for 10x the price...

I never liked the battery powered units of broncolor, that changed with the Move which is honestly awesome in so many ways. Bob, no a RFS2 transmitter won´t fire an (older) RFS pack. As I wrote before they use different frequencies and don´t see each other. Cheers!

I must admit that I have been underwhelmed a bit myself.
Coming from Elinchrom the studio packs were a big improvement with selectable ratios, delay and colour temperature built in plus the single type of socket for all heads is a big one.
However the Elinchrom triggers are much better and all generations of triggers can be used with all receivers at least in some channels.
With the portable packs I have found Elinchrom to be much tougher for field use. You can take a Ranger RX unit to the beach and place it on wet sand no trouble at all. That would be the end of a Mobil pack I think. Also the Ranger has 7.5 stops of adjustment and the Mobil only 4. i am going to have to think about that and perhaps just use the Mobil as "portable" in the studio to save on cords.
