I came across this patch (https://www.diyphotography.net/how-to-turn-gimp-into-photoshop-sort-of-using-photogimp/) today while poking around Linux stuff, but it applies to other OS's as well. This is new, from about a week ago.
I already set this up in macOS Mojave with GIMP 2.10.14 (see screenshot). The Mac version of GIMP runs a bit behind, so not all features work (Save For Web plug-in option at least, but I saved the screenshot from PhotoGIMP as JPEG).
If anybody wants the already prepared application support folder for Mac (you simply replace the existing one), let me know. Or you can do Terminal and invisible file stuff yourself ;-)

Easy to turn GIMP into Photoshop.
Dump all previous versions by abandoning fixes and any new camera support and charge a monthly rental fee for it! Stop meaningful improvements and collect the cash.

Turn GIMP into "Photoshop"
I came across this patch .... This is new, from about a week ago.
IMO even in the latest stable release (2.10.20) the biggest problems with GIMP--and I use it for some purposes, and have financially supported it in the past--are:
(1) unlike Photoshop (and Affinity Photo and others), the workflow is largely destructive, i.e., most operations actually modify the underling pixels instead of creating an instruction that can be modified or withdrawn at any time, and then is processed as part of a final-render-and-export; and
(2) although version 2.10 has greatly improved color management, there are still at least some oddities, and as of just now, the official GIMP roadmap (https://wiki.gimp.org/wiki/Roadmap (https://wiki.gimp.org/wiki/Roadmap)) says, "Color management fixes and improvements - work in progress - Changes released in 2.10.x, more comeing in 3.x".
So you can change the user interface to make GIMP look more like Photoshop, but the same old issues 'under the hood' remain.
