Title: Epson Media Installer for P9570
Post by: rxchaos on June 29, 2020, 03:28:57 pm
Where does one download the Epson Media Installer (EMI) for the P9570 from for the Mac?  Is it a part of the 'Drivers and Utilities Combo Package'? The description on the download page doesn't mention EMI.  I know that there is no utility disk or USB shipped with the printer.  Just wondering...

I called Epson Tech Support and they didn't seem to know why it was not on the download page for the printer.

I hope have my printer next week.

Thank you.  The .nl and .uk sites have a more updated download section that the USA site.

Don't rush. Unless the version you find has been updated in the last couple of weeks, it doesn't work. It allows you to edit settings but the OK button, to save your changes, has no effect. I came across this a few weeks ago, when I got my SC-P7500. There's a thread about it somewhere here. I ended up having to use the Windows version, running in a virtualised machine on my Mac.

Out of curiosity I downloaded and installed the 'Drivers and Utilities Combo Package' from Epson's USA site and Epson Media Installer v1.1.0 (created April 14th) does get installed as a part of the installer.  I suppose this is the version that doesn't work and one has to wait for an updated version from Epson. The description on the page of the Utilities Combo Package doesn't say the EMI is a part of it, and it is odd that Epson's tech support don't know why the EMI was not available for download.

Yes, the Mac version is flawed , you cannot save any settings. From the 'grapevine' i learned a new version of EMI  is due very shortly. It should have a fix, as well as more functionality, also for 3th party paper vendors (Epson speak ;-))
Small note: Epson papers are produced by 3th party paper vendors, it is just Epson branded.

Indeed, it is. Initially, v.1.04 worked but it had no features to speak of. The new version (v. 1.0) arrived and as has been said it refuses to be saved - not the MAC version anyway. We called Epson about this. The rep with whom we spoke told us that since everyone at Epson tech support is working from home, there was nothing that could be done. But, he added that he would escalate the issue for further test. So, don't hold your breath.

There's a new(ish) driver, dated 24th June 2020, available on the Epson UK site (Mac Mojave), but EMI is still at v1.1.0.

The current version of Epson Media Installer (EMI) for the P9570 (P9500 in the UK/EU) is 1.1.2  That is what is bundled with the "Drivers and Utilities Combo Package Installer" on Epson's USA website. The bundle has a Jan 7th 2020 date.  The description in the download link only mentions that the bundle includes the Printer Driver v10.37 and there's no mention of EMI.  The macOS Catalina driver that gets installed is actually v10.65.

EMI 1.1.2 appears to be working as it is supposed to. Custom media settings created using the EMI on the Mac can now be stored on the printer and are visible in the 'Media Type' pulldown menu of the print dialog of Photoshop and other apps.

I wish Epson would update the download links to reflect the correct information.

Yes!  Through all the various driver updates, EMI updates, etc. that I’ve received since my printer arrived, that January date (presumably original first production version software date) persists on their support web page.   I do, however, get the sense from my Epson Wide Format Tech Support representative that this whole COVID situation has really put a crimp in their ability to coordinate things.  It has made it difficult for all the various teams that “make up the whole” to stay coordinated.  My sense is that there’s a sincere effort to do so, and that the individual teams / members are committed to trying to do so.  In dealing directly with my rep over the last several month, my respect for Epson as a company has increased, even in the face of the teething issues with my new printer.
