Beautiful butterfly that had a hard life. Even with my limited knowledge I don’t think that’s a moth though.

You may be right, Armand. I'll fairly soon have an opinion from an expert. If it's a butterfly, I'll change the caption.

Whatever it is, it's a nice image, with a sort of Japanesey look.

You were right, Armand. I finally got a message from my expert telling me what it is.

You were right, Armand. I finally got a message from my expert telling me what it is.

I have a few pointers that cover the most cases:

1. the moths usually have shorter, feathery antennas; they also tend to have hairy, stocky bodies
2. moths are usually less colorful
3. moths are usually nocturnal while butterflies are diurnal

Thanks, Armand. That's all good stuff to know. But in the end, I'm a lot more interested in people than in butterflies or moths.
