Title: Regrowth & Renewal
Post by: maddogmurph on April 25, 2020, 02:48:07 pm
Spring time comes in early August this high in the Colorado Rockies. The flowers were just starting to bloom when we got there, and the snow had recently cleared. The marmots were thrilled, the deer were grazing on an all you can eat buffet, and as usual when this deep into the back country, all was quiet and peaceful.

The adventure to this location in the Sneffles range of Colorado includes driving your jeep through a rushing river with about a 2 foot pop at the end, navigating snow banks, and ending up at some old mines... if you can get that far. One of the few places besides Iceland and New Zealand, where you can still drive through rivers on normal roads.

The technical details... about 22 shots panoramic stitch. Which made editing this file extremely labor intensive, with multiple computer crashes on a system that was built to process 9GB files... I probably would have done more work here if it wasn't so cumbersome. That being said, I'm thrilled with modern technology that is able to replicate things never thought possible not so long ago. My grandfather would have had his mind blown with the possibilities.

Really awesome, Murph.

Your tale reminds me of my trip to Iceland in 1974, When our big Mercedes bus came to a rushing torrent, the driver stopped, got out, picked up a small rock and tossed it into the stream to hear how long it would take to hit bottom. Then he got in and drove across, making a slight s-curve to the left.

No problem!

Icelandic buses are unlike any other public transportation I've seen in the world. They are like army troop carriers equipped for the most rugged terrain on the planet. Might as well be an APC or a unimog... I will never forget driving our little Rav4 through those very rivers... one of them I'm still surprised to this day we made it through... my girlfriend at the time didn't follow the flags... and we sunk down to just below, probably less than an inch or at the intake level. I think her slow moving in a continual fashion kept a wake going infront of the vehicle that protected it for those 4-5 seconds that seemed like an eternity as we drove half submerged through that flowing river...

Well done, Dog!
It's Maddog Russ, and I'll tell you why :) - When I was about 3 years old, my grandfather mentioned we had a Dog named Murphy in the family before I was born, and asked if I was a dog. I got very mad. I didn't like that he called me a dog. And once he knew how to push my buttons, he started calling me Maddog to get a rise out of me. Eventually I caught on, but I kind of hated him for calling me a dog. So you see... you're making me Mad Russ!!! Ironically, I almost never get mad, and don't really have much of a temper.

Fantastic image!  ie what you'd imagine in a Tolkien novel.  You really are in a class by yourself, Maddog.

But do you chase cars and motorcycles, Maddog?   :D

It looks unnatural to me. Perhaps it is because it is a compressed small image. Reminds me of a pointillist painting. Both sides of the centre look to be leaning toward the centre. Despite what I just wrote, I really do like the image. it has fine universal night time feeling.

Lovely.

And since there is talk of Iceland, it is appropriate to mention that Colorado's Mt. Sneffels is named after Snæfellsjökull.

Okay, Murph. I don't want you coming after me and biting my leg.  ;D ::)

I agree. The downfall of this shot is that I couldn't work on this image properly because it was 22 images stitched together (think 48MP x 22 = 1,056MP roughly halved for stitching...). The smart object kept crashing my system. So I settled for stamping it, and just pushing it out as is...
