Title: Can I retrieve Lightroom 6?
Post by: ahbnyc on April 19, 2020, 11:49:05 pm
I bought Lightroom 6 via download from Adobe some years back. My computer died and I go a new one but can't figure out how to get Lightroom 6 on my new computer from the Adobe website, even though I have the license key. Have they really made this impossible? I know that they have switched to a license only model, but I though I owned Lightroom 6 forever. If it can't be retrieved, are there any alternative raw converters that don't require paying $10 a month for the rest of my life?

If you're using Mac, you may find that the latest operating system won't install Lr6 .

Thank you.  I will try that later whenI have some time although it doesn't seem to show anything later than Lightroom 3.

In addition to what John has already advised, you need to be aware of the following.
Yes you do own the license Key for the software, the challenge is to setup your computer hardware to install and run the software.
If you installed the software previously you would have registered the license key in you Adobe ID. The license restricts you to have it installed and activated on two computers at any point in time.
Installation and activation de-activation needs connection to the internet. If there are already two activations you will need to de-activate one.
It’s best to begin by logging in to your Adobe account. It will be connected to you e-mail used to create the initial registration. Good luck. The last update was done in Dec 2017.

I am sorry - I should have had my morning coffee first.

Have you tried logging into your Adobe account. I've not checked for a while, but there used to be a My Products section which would list programs you've bought. Alternatively, contact Adobe support and they should be able to point you to the current equivalent of that page.

Lastly, see http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-lightroom-6-cc-direct-download-links.html . While I believe it's a legitimate site, personally I would not download Adobe apps from a third party.

Right, while LR6 is 64-bit, the installer isn't so it will not run under Catalina but it's super easy to simply boot into the last OS (10.14) or earlier from an external drive, install LR6, then you're set.

Rather miraculously, I appear to have succeeded.  I could not find a way to do this either on the Adobe website or by scouring the internet. However, I used the online help chat feature on the Adobe website and the support person sent me a link to download Lightroom 6. Now all I have to do is figure out how to deactivate it from my defunct computer, but Adobe does seem to provide a link to contact to do that which I found by searching on their website. Too tired to do that tonight. I think they intentionally make this difficult.

Devices can be deactivated on your Adobe ID here: https://account.adobe.com/sessions

I believe you have to connect to your Adobe account via internet with the device that has the installed Lightroom application and log out to deactivate that installation.

Thanks for the responses.  Since the old computer is kaput, I had to go to the Adobe tech support chatline which was able to do the deactivation.  Again, they were very helpful and took care of it. I think that Adobe deliberately makes this difficult so that people who are not persistent give up and sign up for the $10 a month for life plan, although I was going to try Canon DPP.

Yes that was the proper procedure to follow.
