Title: Does same firmware work with both PC and Mac?
Post by: texshooter on March 08, 2020, 11:08:43 pm
I just sold my Epson 3800 printer.  The buyer installed the MacOS printer driver onto his MacOS laptop, but he did not install the MacOS firmware onto the printer. Because I only use a Windows PC. I had already installed the Windows version of the  firmware  years prior.  The buyer did not re-install any MacOS version of the firmware because it never crossed our minds to do so.  We made a few test prints successfully from his MacOS laptop.

Should the buyer be worried of future complications? Should he replace the Windows version of the firmware with the MacOS version?  Or does it even matter? Yes, it seemed to work, but we did not test every possible printer setting, feature or command.

Firmware is the software of the machine- printer itself- it is independent of the OS used. So no there is only one firmware that is specific for the machine.
