The first image is beautiful if I mentally crop out everything below the horizon line.

Interesting point, Rajan: thanks. Certainly much excellent tree photography on this site presents tree trunks without bases. But I liked the snow, the bamboo, the little tree well, and in general I shoot trees that are anchored.
