Title: Early Morning Loch Ard
Post by: KMRennie on February 27, 2020, 06:32:35 pm
Taken in the middle of January on a wonderfully soft and gentle morning. Loch Ard is 30 miles North of Glasgow but could be on a different planet. Ken

Mood and colour is very nice: why is the sky part not included- would maybe even better?

Shooting into the sun and the sky is bright and featureless cloud and just forces the viewers eyes upwards. Darkening it down enough to stop this and it just looks false. Ken

It works beautifully as it is. No sky needed, for me at least.

I take your point about white sky, Ken, but I think a tiny bit more would improve an already fine shot. The trees seem to me just a bit too close to the top of the frame.

Wonderful image. The light is especially exquisite…
Bravo!

It is your photo and alone you can make it as you wish. I was just wondering if there would be something ugly above your photo.
thanks for showing it!

I like it.

This was a 2 shot horizontal Pano with little space above taken in a hurry as the light and the canoe looked great. I then took a multi shot Pano in vertical mode and have space above and below so will process that and see how it looks. I may just clone the hill above the trees onto this image as I rather like how this one turned out. A glass of wine and Photoshop, more entertaining than the tv. Ken

That's the right attitude!

Sky and more of the hill above the trees plus sun shining on the right hand trees. The colour balance is probably different as I am just doodling with my laptop. Ken

my eye goes to the snow and the clouds. Looses the focus on the lake and trees.
Original framing is nicer to me my eye. Maybe a content aware replacement of the snow areas to reduce the need for sky ?

This is the one, Ken. Very nice. Good shooting.

+1

Initially I thought I'll like the first but the more I look I find it harder to decide.

Last one (probably). A bit of warping and filling to raise the hills and allow me to exclude the sky that just kept pulling my eyes upwards. Ken

The newest version nails it, for me.
All three are excellent, but shouldn't be displayed side by side.

+1 , not knowing how the mountain continues, but seeing some part of it...

I prefer this to the original, but my gripe, such as it was, could have been addressed without quite so much sky.

Losing a little of the sky may have scratched your itch Jeremy but leaving just a little sky attracted my eyes all the more, for me it is nice sky or no sky. I have got another image from the same file showing the solo canoeist who was far too small to be visible in the earlier posts, this one with no cloning or warping but it makes me want a longer lens than my present 70-200 but the Nikon F mount zooms are far too heavy for me. Ken

I like this one and the first, Partly for the same reason. They are not the "Expected"...No sky, makes the lake grand.

eliminating the mountain snow fields did the trick for me.
The last one is the best in my book. And the color contrast of the canoe works. It is a little bit of a "surprise".

The last one is an entirely different  photo from the first three. I like it very much.

The third is a wonderful shot, made so by the splash of colour in the trees to the right. I don't see the canoe as remotely important, unlike the first.

The original image works perfectly for me.

I really appreciate how your images do not rely on overworked oversaturated processing that is so common.  Keep it clean and simple.
