Title: Smart Object not updating with camera raw

I opened an mage in PS 2020 as a smart object. I opened the camera raw smart filter, made changes and closed camera raw. The filter showed up under the smart filter but the changes did not take effect. This is a new issue.
I am on an iMac with Catalina.
Did PS2020 change the way smart filters and smart objects work together?
