Title: Lochan na h-achlaise (in Autumn)
Post by: Dave (Isle of Skye) on November 21, 2019, 07:18:01 pm
From a few weeks ago, on what turned out to be one of those amazingly good days for photography, even though the forecast the night before said it would be raining, windy and dull.

Are you using Luminar 4 so you can replace the sky with something nice instead of clag and rain?  :)

I'd love to spend some time in Scotland. So many places in the world...

Thanks everyone, I am really pleased that you like it  ;)

Thanks for reminding me of one of my favourite places.

You're welcome Ken and yes it is one of my favourite places too, although I could probably add most of Scotland to that list as well.

I had never even heard of Luminar until you mentioned it Bill, so just had quick shufty at version 4 reviews on the tube and, well, it looks like a good program for cheating a good sky over a boring one, but hey where's the creativity in that? So no, I wont be buying it. And anyway, my non rental version of CS6 is all I ever seem to need.

Well done dave, is that a pano?

Yes indeed Kevin it is, shot with the camera in the vertical orientation and about eight shots if my memory serves me correctly. The full version sits on my HDD as an uncompressed Tiff at just under 2gb.

I'd love to spend some time in Scotland. So many places in the world...

If you do visit here, then try to be here on or around the third week of October, no tourists, no midges and loads to see, do and photograph  :)

That was just what i wanted to ask... I have been in Scotland but seeing this i remember i have to go again with a car this time...
Weather and especially midgets may be the spoilers- i guess in that area were you took the photo
Is it worth it to go all to the remote north?
Beautiful photo BTW

If you are coming here for two weeks or less, then my advice would be to stick to the North West of Scotland, as there is so much to shoot in this area alone and the main photographic opportunities I have discovered so far, seem to be concentrated in this area. Yes there is much more to shoot outside of the North West of Scotland, but you will get a more concentrated bang for your buck around here IMHO.

If you come here for more than two weeks, then yes do the grand tour all the way around the outer edge and perhaps even get over to the adjacent islands.

It seems that every time Bill decides to come up here to Scotland with his camera, the clouds drop to the ground, the wind gets up and it starts to rain horizontally as the visibility goes down to zero - but then every time Bill leaves Scotland, the clouds start to lift, the sun comes back out again and the birds begin to sing  :)
