Not to mention the "golden years" section!

A handful of members complain and there is an immediate revert to norm. Why not wait for a few days or a week? Some of the complaints seemed spurious at best.

Spurious? Are you joking?
I even tried sending a pic and message this afternoon via the iPad and it failed - neither would be accepted by the system.
I tried again via the computer and zero, worse than it had been earlier during the day, when something did get through.
All I can tell you about the damned design is that it's the closest I have seen to a passport application form. For a site dealing with photography, art, music and design in general, it was a shocking first impression. We are well shot of it.
The lesson is as old as the hills: don't try to fix wot ain't broke.

THANK YOU!

I could just be an old duffer that doesn't like change but it is nice to see the old format back. Ken

I have noticed that several of us tend to equate age with a dislike of change.
I would put that down to experience that only comes with - you guessed - age.

I think most people, regardless of age, know good web design when they see it. We didn't see it here, unfortunately. While reactions can be somewhat subjective, there were objective problems, including typography and use of color. Where I work (software development) I am colleagues with a talented group of web designers distributed in age and 3 of the 3 I showed it to found, at best, that it needed significant work. I know, not a large sample, but nonetheless...
Nothing wrong with change, as other have pointed out, but it has to be seen to have value and you have to execute well.

Hi all, thanks for the - immediate - feedback.
I was also very unhappy with the design and should not have allowed it to go live. A part of the issue, as one poster rightly pointed out, was that the forum software is obsolete and now in need of updating due to traffic and security concerns.
The new template of the software sadly looks nothing like the current version. The version you saw prematurely launched was what the software company has offered as template with a few tweaks from us which still did nothing to make it usable or appealing.
That all being said, we are augmenting it to resemble in colour themes and font sizes the current forum as much as possible (including better features and security). The updated software and design will be relaunched in the new year, hopefully with a more than satisfactory look and UX.
Apologies for the hasty and incomplete launch test. Once again, we have to update the forum in the new year due to security issues and outdated software.
Thanks all for your patience as we figure it out.
