Title: Why isn't my Photoshop 2020 labeled CC?
Post by: dgberg on November 10, 2019, 03:29:36 pm
I am on the $9.99 Adobe photography plan.(Lightroom Classic and PS CC)  I had the 2019 20.0.7 CC version of Photoshop
I could not find any 2020 CC-21.0 version so I loaded the Photoshop 2020 but it is not a cc version.
Want to make sure I did not accidentalty sign up for another version I may get charged for.
I read a thread that we now have 2 versions we should keep both of them, huh?

You are fine.  Adobe has been in the process for a while now of quietly renaming a number of products, including removal of the "CC" on some of them.  This already happened a while back when "Lightroom Classic CC" became just "Lightroom Classic".  And now with the latest move to Photoshop version 21.0 it's just "Photoshop", but still part of the Creative Cloud marketecture.  You still have the "Creative Cloud" app which manages all your Adobe subscription software.  Maybe they are just trying to bring clarity to the difference between CC the app and the various desktop and mobile apps which live under the "CC" umbrella.

Everything now is a CC version. We are at version 21.0.0 which you can see (at least on Mac) using Get Info on the application or in Photoshop using the About Photoshop menu option.

Yes, Adobe has removed “CC” in the name for all applications

Depends on where you look (they could make this all clearer):

Do you know what “CC” stands for?

Yes, I know that CC stands as Creative Cloud. The suite continues to be Adobe Creative Cloud but they have removed the "CC" (Two uppercase letters "C") from the name of the individual applications, so in the previous example the new name is Photoshop, not Photoshop CC

Was “CC” exactly as I’ve written ever in the name?

Yes, when Adobe started with the creative cloud / subscription mode, the individual applications had the "CC" added to the name, so we had Photoshop CC, Premiere Pro CC, etc.
Google for "Photoshop splash screen" or "Photoshop splash screen history" and you will see that up to the previous version it was called "Photoshop CC"

Thanks
I guess the question is, can I uninstall the 2019 cc version?

Hi, you should not have any issue uninstalling the 2019 cc version. Just in case, version 20.0.7 it is still available for download and installation

I would much prefer it if they left the CC and did away with adding 2020 etc each year and creating a new folder full junk in the computer. Why don't they just update the app like everyone else does and keep last years plugins etc in the correct folder.

In the latest version they have repaired on thing i like: on Transformation you can drag in guidelines again - without pressing the shift key
That used to be the old norm, but was changed some versions ago;
back to normal .

And why on earth do "Lightroom" and "Lightroom Classic" have such different interfaces?

They are two distinct applications. One Cloud Based and the other Desktop Focused.

Application naming.
1. Lightroom (Cloud based) released in October 2017 as version one and is presently at version 3.1 Originally named Lightroom CC, now Lightroom see info at the link below.
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-cc-1-0-released/
This new application does not have all the features that are contained in the older version.

2. Lightroom Classic (Desktop focused photo editing app) released in mid 2006 as Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, has progressed for over 10 years and has been named Lightroom, Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic C now Lightroom Classic.

Thank you Denis, I know all that. The question is why two apps that purportedly do the same things--organize and develop photos--have such different interfaces. Cloud vs. desktop should not, AFAIK, affect this. Either way you still need to adjust exposure, fix spot, and all that. Am I missing something?

It was brought home to me recently when I offered to teach a friend the basics of LR. She brought her laptop over and needless to say she had the cloud version, so I was at a loss.
